Soundtrack Idea, Be Funky, not funny
I think guildwars should design something like Battlefield vietnam, as to regards to listening to your own music via the ingame, in BFV u put your tracks in a Music folder within your Main Dir, and the game has a simple build in kinda Mp3 player.
be nice to not run exernal programs to listen to your music while you play.
wow look at me i been posting alot recently, just waiting for someone to say shut up lolz

Your idea is not all that bad of one, but I see a number of reasons ArenaNet would not want to implement it.
1) They've gone to the trouble of commissioning outside sources to make elegant soundtracks for their games. Why would they want to encourage you to use your own music?
2) If they add an mp3 player, the coding for it either has to be licensed from someone else (which means it's more expensive to make, which is a major no-no unless they want to jack up the retail prices on new chapters, which is conincidentally also a major no-no), or they have to create an entirely new programming code to play mp3s within Guild Wars, so that they're not infringing on anyone else with their product. Making an entirely new (large) amount of data that would have to be streamed to countless computers just so that they wouldn't have to run Winamp or WMP or iTunes or whatever in the background is not something I can foresee ArenaNet doing.
3) Adding new features means adding bugs. Granted, bugs usually get worked out...eventually...but the bugs from adding an integrated mp3 player will likely even affect people who just run another program "behind" GW to play their tunes. As we've seen with the recent lag/err7 issues, ArenaNet's method of addressing bugs isn't always the best...
4) It really isn't a necessity. If anything, it would be something of a nuisance to use, as Guild Wars' interface isn't set up like that of music players--organizing playlists and such in-game would probably become a nightmare.
So I'm both not in favor of this idea, and not in any way expecting it will ever be integrated, even though it's not inherently bad per se.

Download something like winamp (you might be able to use WMP, but I don't like it so haven't started it up for years, and probably never will). Turn of the music in-game, but have winamp playing the music in the background.
Tell me, when there is that easy a solution, why should ANET do anything ?

but im pretty sure theres companys out there that would do the software for this, as long as they get advertised in someway on the game, because gw is a worldwide game, what company wouldnt want themselves advertised in such a way.
also as to regards more streaming, why would it need to stream, its not like the player is going to be a online part of the game.
also as to regards to your playlist, on BFV there isnt any, u stick them in a folder, press a key drop down box comes press the letter u want to corrispond to the track, then bobs ya uncle.
yeah but the idea of this post is not to use winamp and media player. i use winamp anyways and usually host a shoutcast of pure classic rock when im playing :P

Useless add - on, they work a LOT to create a well built soundtrack to play on specific times on the storyline, using custom soundtracks is your choice OK, i do that as well, just turn down the music and listen to whathever you want on winamp or wmp or anything like it.
Whith so much work on their hands, i think this suggestion should be put WAY down on the "to do" list... maybe right after they raise the level cap to 1000 ^^
Latter.
